As regular readers will recall, I’ll be playing at TEDx Leamington Spa in just a couple of weeks from now. Yesterday, we had a full rehearsal in the event venue, All Saints Church in Leamington. All Saints is one of the largest churches in the country, rivalling some cathedrals in stature. The sound in there, with it’s huge natural reverb, was amazing.
Here’s a video of one of my improv sessions (I played quite a few), shot from a single fixed camera just behind me. Audio capture is through the camera mic, which is picking up from the monitor speaker on the floor beneath the camera.
Obviously the camera mic picks up loads of ambient sound as well – but I also captured a clean recording of the track if you’d like to hear it. It’s a free .mp3 download, too.
The video camera position doesn’t really give a clear idea of the sheer scale of the room – this snap does, though. Just the height of it is dizzying.
